List of Contracts and Partnerships

BHS specializes in the management of behavioral healthcare services, including selection, hiring, and retention of behavioral health professionals in the underserved, rural area of Maui encompassing three islands with limited access. Partner agencies contract management functions to BHS because we can make decisions and move forward more quickly than most non-profit organizations. Our efficiency and expertise also result in higher quality care at less cost than doing business inside the typical fee-for-service or non-profit model. We track outcomes, including hospital admissions. Our case management services decrease hospital admissions and are much more clinically — and cost — effective than hospital admissions.

Past contracts have directly serviced these programs or provided comprehensive management for them:

Community-Based Case Management — including psychiatric, nursing, peer specialist, paraprofessional, and case management functions — over 500 consumers served in their homes and communities (in partnership with Aloha House, funded by CCS/OhanaCare or the Adult Mental Health Division of the State of Hawaii Department of Health). Strengthening of all aspects of health including establishment of the Medical Home and linkage to treatment and preventive services. Complex co-morbid psychiatric/medical cases accepted. Coordination with public services including nutrition, vocational, housing, educational, the Judiciary, Child Welfare, domestic violence prevention, and financial assistance.

Maui Counseling Group — Over 1,000 patient visits per month in 2014 with over 20 licensed clinicians. Outpatient counseling and mental health clinic treating depression, anxiety, stress, parenting and child behavior problems, postpartum depression, relationship and family difficulties, and more. Quest participants and low-income community welcomed. Psychiatric and substance abuse treatment services available (in partnership with Aloha House). Collaboration with health-care providers and Medical Home.

Crisis Response/Crisis Mobile Outreach for Maui County — County-wide immediate crisis response to any resident in crisis, staffed 24/7, 365 days per year, average 3-5 Crisis Mobile Outreach calls per day, 7 days per week. Funded by the Child and Mental Health and Adult Mental Health Divisions of the State of Hawaii Department of Health. Children, adolescents, and adult clients. Home and community-based outreach and intervention, plus “warm hand-off” linkage to needed services including domestic violence shelters, hospital emergency room, housing and medical needs, and assistance with eligibility for additional State-funded case management and healthcare services.

Intensive In-Home Therapeutic Services for Children and Adolescents — Children referred (and funded by) the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division of the State of Hawaii Department of Health receive intensive home and community-based therapy to prevent hospitalization, legal involvement, and high-risk behaviors. Average 20 concurrent cases at about 10 hours per week of service per family.

Intensive Case Management — including psychiatric, nursing, and case management functions  (in partnership with Aloha House,  funded by Adult Mental Health Division of the State of Hawaii Department of Health)

Intensive Family Therapy/Family Court/Drug Court — Intensive, long-term home and community-based, family-strengthening therapy and psychoeducational program for DHS/CWS/Judiciary-referred families (in partnership with Aloha House). Coordination with public services including nutrition, vocational, housing, domestic violence, medical/nursing prevention and Medical Home, educational, and financial assistance.

Early Intervention Evaluations and Intervention — Babies aged 0-3 and their families referred for services by Imua Family Services and the EIS section of the State of Hawaii Department of Health, including diagnostic evaluations, Master’s-level interventions, and paraprofessional-level case support.

“Felix-Era” therapeutic services including psychiatric and psychological evaluations, case management, individual, family, and group therapy provided by over 100 clinicians, County-wide. In partnership with Aloha House, and funded by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division of the State of Hawaii.
